Apple Towers

The Glass Room New York / London

It is well known that the big tech companies can get creative when it comes to withholding taxes. “Apple Towers” impressively visualises the consequences this behaviour can have for entire countries: the height of the white tower represents Apple’s wealth, which is largely accumulated in offshore accounts; the red tower shows what the company manages to avoid paying to the US treasury; and the blue towers represent country-specific costs for education, the military and more – expenses that could to a large extent be covered by Apple’s tax payments alone.

The figures are adapted to the countries in which the respective Glass Room is exhibited. A pulsating symbol on the top of the white tower indicates the currency zone in which the object is currently located.
