Even when words like “misinformation” and “fake news” nowadays are on everyone’s lips, many of us have trouble distinguishing true from false in the digital world. In the 21st century, those who aren’t satisfied with the subjective labelling of true and false information have to take action. Whereas in earlier times misinformation was somehow contained, nowadays it can spread uncontrollably and can find us on the internet without us even having to look for it.
The Misinformation Edition addresses problematic aspects of social media platforms. Posters and apps in the exhibition draw out the elements that contribute to the mis and disinformation ecosystem, from deepfakes that imitate our speech, to the methods that make technology so addictive. Combined with the Data Detox Kit, these artworks raise awareness about the responsible use of modern media, because everybody is vulnerable to spreading misinformation with just one click.
