The Holistic Security Manual for advocacy

Holistic Security is a strategy manual to help human rights defenders maintain their well-being in the course of their work.

Safety, in any regard, is very quickly compromised for those working in the pursuit of defending human rights. This was the motivation for the Tactical Technology Collective, together with Front Line Defenders and Center for Victims of Torture, to develop a guide with strategies, practices and plans; tools to strengthen integral security during activities that are common throughout advocacy work.

The term “holistic”, in this case, includes protection of the physical entirety (life), well-being and the proper management of digital information as key elements of a comprehensive approach.

Preparation, Investigation, Strategy and Action are the four essential steps of structuring an activity and creating a network which links all aspects of security and strengthening weak points that could be exploited during performance.
