Data Detox Kit

The 8 day Data Detox Kit

Facebook, Google, Apple & Co. – anyone who navigates the web leaves traces behind. Despite the fact that the handling of data is widely discussed, it is often difficult to maintain control over one’s own data.

The Data Detox Kit, developed by Tactical Tech and La Loma, helps people to recognise their digital self so that they can reduce their data trail and take control of their future data footprint as they navigate the internet. Each of the compact units addresses one of eight daily topics such as “Being social”, “Searching and surfing” and “Creating a new you”. Concrete step-by-step instructions are accompanied by brief information texts as well as additional challenges and tips.

La Loma designed the Data Detox Kit in collaboration with two illustrators in two engaging versions. The edition in DIN A5 format for the Glass Room Community Edition was available as a download, it could be produced and distributed in small numbers at a reasonable price. Visitors to the Glass Room exhibitions received the more elaborate version of the kit in a folding box at the Data Detox Bar. Clearly and concisely designed, the guides on the individual topics lead people through the steps to digital detoxification in a simple way – without requiring any prior technical knowledge.

The Data Detox Kit has already been translated into 36 languages. The current version is being continued by Tactical Tech at datadetoxkit.org.
